Cattle entry prices and entry forms for 2024 will be available soon.

Cattle classes include sections for Dairy and Commercial cattle, pedigree Dexter and South Devon, as well as classes for other native and continental pedigree breeds.

Heart of England Cattle Competition

We are again hosting the third and final leg of the Heart of England Cattle Competition where points for the number of cattle entered and placings achieved at Blaston, Kenilworth and Blakesley Shows will be combined to see the Heart of England Champion and Blakesley Show Champion crowned. Heart Of England 2023

The Heart of England Cattle Championship is a points-based competition incorporating Kenilworth Show, Blaston Show and Blakesley Show. Exhibitors will accumulate points for entering cattle (up to a maximum of four animals) and will be awarded points for top five placings. Each show will award Sashes and Rosettes and will also award prize money kindly sponsored by Harris & Clarke Chartered Accountants to the Exhibitor accumulating most points at their Show. The Exhibitor with the most points at the conclusion of the three Shows will be awarded the Rix Perpetual Trophy kindly donated by Rix Petroleum and prize money sponsored by their respective NFU Mutual Branch Stoneleigh, Market Harborough, Brackley & Pitsford.


DAIRY CATTLE 2023

Judge: Mr T Warren

Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: Member £7 Non-Member £12 (Unless stated otherwise)

Class 72-Best Female Calf born on or after 1st October 2022. Any handler under 12 years on show day will be judged in a separate handling competition.

Prizes: £30, £20, £15, £5 Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: Member £3 Non-Member £8

THE DAIRY YOUNG HANDLER’S CUP (57) will be awarded to the winner of the Dairy Calf Young Handler.

Class 73-Best Maiden Heifer

Prizes: £30, £20, £15, £5 Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: Member £3 Non-Member £8

Class 74-Best Heifer In-Calf with first calf.

Class 75-Best Cow In-Calf

Class 76-Best Heifer In-Milk

Class 77-Best Cow In-Milk having had two or three calves.

Class 78-Best Cow In-Milk with fourth or subsequent calf.

Class 79-Best Breeders Group. Three females, property of and bred by the same exhibitor, from classes 74-78.

Prizes: £25, £15 No Entry Fee

THE SOCIETY’S SILVER CHALLENGE CUP (25) together with the SOCIETY’S SPECIAL PRIZE OF £75 will be awarded to the Champion Cow or Heifer and £25 to the Reserve Champion, first and second prizewinners in Classes 75-78 to compete.

THE J W COOK CHALLENGE CUP (26) for the Champion Heifer from Classes 72-74.

THE NORTHANTS CATTLE BREEDERS CLUB GUBBY COCKERILL TROPHY (45) for the Best Heifer In-Milk Class 76


COMMERCIAL BEEF CATTLE 2023

Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: Member £7 Non-Member £12 (Unless stated otherwise)

In Classes 80-81 all entries to be weighed on arrival, and no later than 9am; the lightest 50% will be judged in Class 80, the heaviest 50% will be judged in Class 81.

Class 80-Best Lightweight Steer. Any breed.

Class 81-Best Heavyweight Steer. Any breed.

In classes 82-83 all entries to be weighed on arrival, and no later than 9am; the lightest 50% will be judged in Class 82, and the heaviest 50% will be judged in Class 83.

Class 82-Best Lightweight Heifer. Any breed.

Class 83-Best Heavyweight Heifer. Any breed.

THE A H LOVELL SILVER CHALLENGE CUP (27) together with the SOCIETY’S SPECIAL PRIZE OF £100 will be awarded to the Best Beef Type Animal from Classes 80-83.

THE FRANK ELKINGTON CHALLENGE CUP (28) will be awarded to the Best Beef Animal of the opposite sex to the Champion.

The stockman of these two animals will receive a tankard each, which will become their own property, fresh ones being kindly presented annually in memory of the Peckover Brothers.

Class 84-Best Beef Type Suckling Cow with calf at foot, pedigree or non-pedigree.

Prizes: £80, £55, £30 Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: Member £7 Non-Member £12

Class 85-Best Beef Calf. Any breed or cross suitable for beef production, 400 kgs or under.

Prizes: £60, £35, £25 Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: Member £7 Non-Member £12

THE F W PHIPPS SILVER CHALLENGE CUP (29) will be awarded to the Best Exhibit from Class 85.

THE SOCIETY’S SILVER CHALLENGE CUP (30) for the Best Local Exhibit from Classes 80-3 and 85, shown by an Exhibitor residing within 15 miles of Blakesley Church.


YOUNG HANDLER - BEEF 2023

It is a condition of entry that children should only handle animals where they have the necessary strength and experience to safely control the said animal. Please state age on entry form. Entries will also be taken on the day in the Secretary’s tent.

Class 86J-Young Handler Beef - Junior Open to Young Handlers aged 9 to 15 years on date of Show.

Class 86S-Young Handler Beef - Senior Open to Young Handlers aged 16 to 21 years on date of Show.

Classes may be combined if insufficient entries are received.

PEDIGREE SOUTH DEVON CATTLE 2023

Class 87-Best Pedigree South Devon Cow in-calf or with calf at foot.

Class 88-Best Pedigree South Devon Heifer born on or after 1st January 2022.

Class 89-Best Pedigree South Devon Heifer born on or after 1st January 2021.

Class 90-Best Junior Pedigree South Devon Bull born on or after 1st January 2022.

Class 91-Best Senior Pedigree South Devon Bull born before 1st January 2022.

Classes may be amalgamated at the discretion of the judge if there are insufficient entries.

THE SOUTH DEVON CATTLE BREEDERS CLUB CUP (24) will be awarded to the Champion South Devon.

THE ALEXANDER FOSTER TROPHY (31) together with a special prize of £20 will be awarded to the Champion animal from the South Devon classes.

THE SOUTH DEVON HERD BOOK SOCIETY kindly presents a Sash to the South Devon Champion.

Class 92-South Devon Young Handler. Open to handlers aged under 20 years on date of Show, showing a South Devon owned by the handler, or from classes 87 - 90.

Prizes: £25, £15, £10, £5 Entry Fee inclusive of VAT: £2.50 (Entries also taken on the Day)

A Special Prize of £30, kindly donated by Simon Hopcraft will be awarded to the Champion South Devon Young Handler.

THE MIDLAND SOUTH DEVON will present a Show Stick to the winner of Class 92.


PEDIGREE DEXTER CATTLE 2023

Class 93-Best Pedigree Dexter Calf under 12 months on date of show, either sex.

Class 94-Best Pedigree Dexter Heifer not having calved.

Class 95-Best Pedigree Dexter Dry Cow or Heifer having had a calf.

Class 96-Best Pedigree Dexter Cow or Heifer in milk.

Class 97Best Pedigree Dexter Bull.

A Championship Rosette and Spoon will be awarded to the Dexter Champion by the Dexter Cattle Society.

THE N.G. OSBORNE CHALLENGE CUP (34) will be awarded to the Dexter Champion.

Classes 98-105 have been included to encourage more Pedigree Breeds to exhibit at the Show. If sufficient entries of any one breed are received new specific breed sections may be included in future shows. Please state breed on entry form.

THE K SMITH (EYDON) TROPHY (32) will be awarded to the best Aberdeen Angus from Classes 98 to 101

Class 102-Best Continental Pedigree Breed – Junior Bull born on or after 01/01/22

Class 103-Best Continental Pedigree Breed – Senior Bull born before 01/01/22

Class 104-Best Continental Pedigree Breed – Heifer born on or after 01/01/22

Class 105-Best Continental Pedigree Breed – Heifer or Cow with Calf born before 01/01/22

Classes 102-103 and Classes 104-105 may be combined if insufficient entries.

THE J.A. & M.F. McMILLAN TROPHY (33) will be awarded to the overall winner of Classes 102-105.


BEST BEEF ANIMAL IN SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP

Judge: Mr R Leech

The Champion of the Commercial Beef, South Devon, Dexter and Other Native and Continental Breed sections will be eligible to compete. The Reserve Champion of the Champion’s section will then join the judging to compete for the Reserve Best Beef Animal in Show.
